Our ‘5 Questions’ series is coming to an end, and this week we are happy to introduce you to Pat Nagle, who talks about some cool technology, his favourite KantanMT feature and lots more. The series aims to give you a better insight into the thoughts and ideas of the people at KantanMT.

1. What’s your role at KantanMT?

I am a Project Manager responsible for the construction and maintenance of KantanFleet™ and for the sourcing of quality data for KantanLibrary™. We recently announced the release of an updated version of KantanLibrary, with 204 new data sets and 59 language combinations!

In addition, I have started working with KantanLabs, our Research and Development department, and I am really excited about the projects we are developing. We have already announced our KantanNeural™ Fleet Engines, which are generating a great deal of interest among our clients and I am very happy to be a part of such cutting-edge research.

If you would like to know more about KantanNeural, join our upcoming webinar with Tony O’Dowd, CEO and Chief Architect of KantanMT.com and Dr Dimitar Shterionov, KantanLabs lead, where they will provide an overview of KantanNeural and talk about the new A/B testing feature on KantanLQR.

2. What according to you, is the most marketable technology right now?

I would have to say that I am a big fan of wearable technology in all its forms. Just imagine having the convenience of an automated translation system on your wrist! It would make travelling, communicating and becoming a global citizen a breeze.

3. What according to you, is the least appreciated piece of technology?

The remote control: Only when the remote is missing or the batteries are dead does one realize how good we had it.

4. What interests you the most in the world of automated translation?

I am amazed by how far Machine Translation has come today. The fact that an MT engine can be customised so effectively that the resulting translation is almost indistinguishable from that of a human translator’s is very exciting. Of course, we have a long way to go before MT quality is flawless, but I think with recent innovations in the field of Neural Networks and other advanced technology, we are not too far from reaching the desired level of quality.

5. If you could be any fictional character, who/ what would you be, and why?

Sherlock Holmes – I always wanted to be a detective, solving crimes and getting the bad-guy behind bars. Plus, I think I could put my excellent observation skills and attention to detail to good use as Holmes. Not to mention, I can rock a deerstalker!
